Engelland went unbeaten in five contests to capture the 184-pound title at the Cornell College Matman Invitational held Jan. 14 in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Engelland pinned his first two opponents, sticking Lakeland College’s Jeremy Kroeger to the mat in 1:35 and Luther College’s (Iowa) Micah Ballew in 48 seconds. Engelland then advanced to the title bout with victories of 7-2 over UW-La Crosse’s Tony Piechowski and 7-1 over Coe College’s (Iowa) Ethan Ball. In the championship match, Engelland improved his season record to 19-0 with a 5-2 victory over Brian Broll of Buena Vista University (Iowa). UW-Oshkosh finished sixth in the team standings with 75.5 points. Coe College won the 14-team event with 153 points, while Cornell College placed second with 117 and Luther College third with 94.5.
