With about 800 meters remaining in the Brooks Invitational at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis., Nelson was in a dead-heat with Washington University's (Mo.) Michael Burnstein. Nelson kicked in another gear and won the 434-runner event with a 15-second lead. He led UW-Stout to a 13th-place finish through a field of 47 schools in a time of 24-minutes, 45.85-seconds in the 8-kilometer run. Burnstein came in with a time of 24:59.06. Nelson’s time was 23 seconds faster than when he ran the same course last year and placed 24th.
