Kalla Schaefer, Senior (Madison, Wis./Memorial) & Alexandra Bayliss, Sophomore, Sheboygan, Wis. (North)
The duo went 5-0 playing in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. The tournament included a field of 18 of the top tennis teams in the Midwest. Schaefer and Bayliss won the draw of 32 knocking off three seeded teams on the way, including the No. 1 seed of Kathryn Schmidt and Anne Lombardi of Carleton College (Minn.) 8-4 in the semis, and the No. 2 seed of Megan Gaard and Alex Ericson of Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) 6-3, 6-3 in the finals. This is the first time a team from the WIAC has won this event. The win gives Schaefer and Bayliss automatic ITA All-America honors.
