Nelson finished second out of 234 finishers in the Open Division (NCAA II & III, NAIA, Community College, Unattached) of the 19th Annual Sundodger Invitational hosted by the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash., Sept. 17. In the process, Nelson ran a 24:27 in the 8K to become UW-Stout’s school record holder with an 11 second PR. He led the team to a fourth-place team finish and a win over NCAA Division III No. 34-ranked (coach’s poll) Whitworth College (Wash.).
