After missing the 2010 season with an injury, Rubens' second start of the 2011 campaign was a solid one as he held Western Connecticut State University scoreless over nine innings March 25. Rubens led UW-Oshkosh to the 5-0 victory by allowing just six hits, all singles, to the Colonials. His 91-pitch performance went without a walk and included eight strikeouts. Only two of the 32 Western Connecticut State University batters faced by Rubens reached second base. It was the fourth career shutout for Rubens.
