Delzer won the shot put and placed second in the 35-pound weight throw in a dual meet against the University of Chicago (Ill.) Jan. 15 and an invitational hosted by North Central College (Ill.) Jan. 21. In UW-Oshkosh’s 98-58 victory over the University of Chicago, Delzer captured first place in the shot put with a distance of 52-4 1/2. His performance defeated eight other opponents and surpassed the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III Championship. Lewis Prior of UW-Oshkosh finished second in the event with a mark of 50-0 1/2. In the 35-pound weight throw, Delzer finished second among 11 contestants with a distance of 57-0 1/4. His effort also surpassed provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III Championship. Ben Ludtke of UW-Oshkosh won the event with a mark of 60-0 1/4. Competing at the North Central College Cardinal Opener, Delzer won the shot put with a distance of 55-3. His effort defeated 22 other participants and surpassed the automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III Championship. Tony Baker of UW-Oshkosh finished second with a mark of 53-2 3/4. In the 35-pound weight throw, Delzer finished fourth among 29 contestants with a distance of 57-9 1/2. His mark surpassed the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III Championship. Robert Kapustka of North Central College won the event with a toss of 61-9 3/4. North Central College won its own seven-team meet with 174.5 points. UW-Oshkosh finished second with 162.5 and the University of Chicago third with 87.
