2023-24 WIAC Kwik Trip Women's Ice Hockey Athletes of the Week
Week of Feb. 12 - 18
Rose Beeman, Senior (Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret’s), Goalie of UW-Superior
Needing one point on the weekend to secure the No. 3 seed in the WIAC Tournament/O’Brien Cup, Beeman put together strong back-to-back performances. On Feb. 16 against Northland College (Wis.), she made 32 saves as the Yellowjackets shutout the LumberJills 3-0. She was just as good the following day (Senior Day), making 23 saves to post a 4-0 shutout. For the week, she was 2-0-0 with a 0.00 goals against average and a 1.000 save percentage. She now has shutouts in three of her last four starts.

Week of Feb. 5 - 11
Megan Goodreau, Sophomore (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial), Forward of UW-River Falls
Goodreau totaled three points with two goals and an assist, including the overtime game-winner to lead the top-ranked Falcons to a 4-3 win over No. 6-ranked UW-Eau Claire on Feb. 7 at Hunt Arena. With the victory, the Falcons secured the WIAC regular season title.

Week of Jan. 29 - Feb. 4
Sadie Long, Junior (Farmington, Minn./Farmington), Forward of UW-Eau Claire
Long scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-1 victory over Augsburg University (Minn.) on Jan. 30. With the game tied 1-1 in the late stages of the second period, Long found the back of the net to put the Blugolds ahead for the first time all game with under six minutes until the second intermission. She helped ice the victory away with another goal early in the third. It was her first multi-goal game of the season.

Alexa Backmann, Freshman (Saint Michael, Minn./Rogers), Goalie of UW-Eau Claire
Backmann stopped all 15 shots she faced to earn a third consecutive shutout and give the Blugolds a 1-0 victory over UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 27. She made 11 saves and killed a penalty in the opening period, and held strong from there to keep the Pointers off the board throughout the afternoon. Backmann has shutout the Pointers three times in the last two weeks.

Week of Jan. 15 - 21
Rose Beeman, Senior (Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret’s), Goalie of UW-Superior
Despite losing a pair of games during the week to UW-River Falls, Beeman was solid in goal for the Yellowjackets against the No. 1 team in the country. On Jan. 18, she stopped 37 shots, but the Yellowjackets fell to UW-River Falls 4-1 at home. Beeman was even better on Jan. 20, stopping 56 shots in a 4-1 loss in River Falls. For the week, Beeman had a saves percentage of .921.

Maddie McCollins, Senior (Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata), Forward of UW-River Falls
McCollins led the No. 1-ranked Falcons to a trio of wins during the week, defeating College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) on Jan. 9, before a weekend sweep over UW-Stevens Point. McCollins totaled nine points on the week with six goals and three assists, including her fourth career hat-trick against the Pointers on Jan. 12.

Kate Holtz, Sophomore (Austin, Minn./Austin), Forward of Northland College
Holtz had a three-point week, including a goal and an assist in a 4-1 triumph over University of Dubuque (Iowa) on Jan. 3. She followed up her two-point game by scoring an overtime winner against Aurora University (Ill.) on Jan. 6. Holtz also tallied eight shots and a block in three games.

Madison Lavergne, Sophomore (Warroad, Minn./Warroad), Forward of UW-River Falls
Lavergne scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period to lead the top-ranked Falcons to a 3-2 win at No. 2-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) on Dec. 13. The win marked the second victory over the Gusties, and Lavergne’s second goal of the season.

Alex Hantge, Senior (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson), Forward of UW-River Falls
Hantge led the No. 2-ranked Falcons to a pair of wins on the week, totaling a goal and two assists, including the game-winning goal during a 2-0 win over No. 1-ranked and defending national champion Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) on Dec. 5.

Week of Nov. 27 - Dec. 3
Maddie McCollins, Senior (Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata), Forward of UW-River Falls
McCollins led the No. 3-ranked Falcons to a win over No. 8-ranked Adrian College (Mich.) on Nov. 30, to help UW-River Falls remain undefeated at 9-0 overall, totaling six points off a goal and a career-high five assists. Her goal stood as her team-leading ninth of the season, while she assisted on all three of UW-River Falls’ power play goals, including the game-winner during the 7-5 win.

Week of Nov. 20 - 26
Audrey Ellerington, Freshman (London, Ontario), Forward of Northland College
Ellerington recorded her first collegiate hat trick, including the game-winning goal, in the LumberJills’ 5-3 win over Concordia College-Moorhead (Minn.) on Nov. 22. She also assisted on a goal to finish the game with four points. On the week, Ellerington totaled eight shots and three blocks.

Week of Nov. 13 - 19
Maddie McCollins, Senior (Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata), Forward of UW-River Falls
McCollins helped the Falcons remain unbeaten with a 5-2 win over No. 8-ranked UW-Eau Claire on Nov. 18, recording her third career hat-trick. She also added an assist for a four-point game and led UW-River Falls with nine shots on goal.

Rose Beeman, Senior (Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde St.-Margaret), Goalie of UW-Superior
In the only game of the week, Beeman was strong in goal for the Yellowjackets. In the conference opener at UW-Eau Claire on Nov. 11, she had 40 shots come her way, and turned aside 36, including 25 in the final two periods of the game, but the Yellowjackets couldn’t hold a late lead and fell to the Blugolds 4-2.

Jordan O’Connor, Senior (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie), Goalie of UW-River Falls
O’Connor led the Falcons to a pair of wins during the week over the College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) on Nov. 2, and Saint Mary’s University (Minn.) on Nov. 4. In the two games, she totaled 43 saves with a .977 save percentage. O’Connor picked up her seventh career shutout against the Bennies on the road with 20 saves, and then made 23 saves against the Cardinals during a 3-1 victory.

Week of Oct. 23 - 29
Sophie Rausch, Graduate Student (Fergus Falls, Minn./Fergus Falls), Forward of UW-Eau Claire
Rausch tallied six points in a two-game sweep of the College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) Oct. 27-28. She scored four goals and contributed two assists as the Blugolds won 4-3 and 7-1. In the team’s season opener, Rausch scored a go-ahead goal in the third period to break a 2-2 tie and added another goal two minutes later. In the 7-1 win, Rausch had two assists within the first 11:33 of the game and added a goal apiece in the second and third periods. She registered a plus-minus of +3 in the series.
