2013-14 Men's Basketball Athletes of the Week

Week of Feb. 17 - 23
Chas Cross, Senior (Winnebago, Ill.), Center of UW-Platteville
Cross averaged 16 points, 7.5 rebounds and two blocks in the Pioneers’ two victories during the week.  He shot an efficient 13-of-15 (86.7%).  On Feb. 19 against UW-Eau Claire, he surpassed former All-American Jeff Skemp as the Pioneers’ all-time career blocked shots leader, amassing 131 blocks.  Cross recorded 11 points, five rebounds and three blocks against the Blugolds.  He led all scorers on Feb. 22 against UW-River Falls with 21 points and added 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season.

Week of Feb. 10 - 16
KJ Evans, Junior (Beloit, Wis./Memorial), Guard of UW-Whitewater
In two wins during the week, Evans averaged 19 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists for the Warhawks.  In a win over UW-La Crosse on Feb. 11, Evans played 31 minutes, shot 9-for-15 from the floor, including 1-for-2 from behind the arc, 2-for-4 from the free throw line, collected 14 rebounds and dished out two assists to go along with his 21 points.  In another win over UW-Oshkosh on Feb. 15, he did most of his damage at the foul line, collecting 9 of his 17 points there.  He added 2 assists and 6 rebounds in the game.  For the week, Evans shot 54.5% from the field (12-for-22) and 42.9% from three-point land (3-for-7).

Week of Feb. 3 - 9
Luke Tweed, Senior (Fall Creek, Wis.), Guard of UW-La Crosse
Tweed averaged 22.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals in two UW-La Crosse victories during the week.  He shot 55.2% (16-of-29) from the field in the two games, including 53.8% (seven-of-13) from three-point range, and 75.0% (six-of-eight) at the free throw line.  Tweed finished with 22 points and a career-high four steals in UW-La Crosse's 64-63 win at UW-River Falls on Feb. 5, while adding three assists.  He then tied his career-high with 23 points in a 85-70 victory over UW-Platteville on Feb. 8, going seven-of-10 from the field, including four-of-six from three-point range, and five-of-six at the line.  Tweed also grabbed five rebounds.

Week of Jan. 27 - Feb. 2
Reggie Hearn, Senior (Milwaukee, Wis./Marshall), Forward of UW-Whitewater
Hearn guided the Warhawks to two wins during the week, averaging 17.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest.  In a road win over UW-Platteville on Jan. 29, Hearn scored 25 points on 11-for-25 shooting from the field.  He added six rebounds and one block in the game.  In a home victory over UW-Stout on Feb. 1, Hearn scored 10 points and recorded five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal.  For the week, he shot 65.2 percent from the floor in 73 minutes of action.

Week of Jan. 20 - 26
Trevor Hass, Senior (New London, Wis.), Guard/Forward of UW-Stevens Point
Hass helped lead top-ranked UW-Stevens Point to road wins over UW-Platteville and UW-La Crosse.  On Jan. 22 against UW-Platteville, Hass finished with 18 points, including 4-for-7 (57 percent) from beyond the arc, four rebounds and had three steals.  Hass had another efficient shooting night by going 13-17 (76 percent) from the field against UW-La Crosse on Jan. 25, including tying a school record by hitting nine threes on just 13 attempts (69 percent), and made all 10 of his free throws.  The senior broke the school record for points in a game against the Eagles, finishing with 45.  For the week, Hass averaged 31.5 points per game on 63 percent shooting from the field and 65 percent (13-20) from beyond the arc. Hass also averaged 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per contest, while shooting 12-for-12 from the foul line.

Week of Jan. 13 - 19
Reggie Hearn, Senior (Milwaukee, Wis./Marshall), Forward of UW-Whitewater
In two wins during the week, Hearn averaged 13.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per contest.  He scored 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting as the Warhawks handed UW-Platteville its first conference loss of the season on Jan. 15.  Against UW-Superior on Jan. 18, he scored 11 points and hauled in 12 boards, while adding three steals and one assist.  UW-Whitewater is 14-2 overall and a perfect 8-0 at home this season.

Week of Jan. 6 - 12
Tyler Tillema, Senior (Randolph, Wis.), Guard of UW-Stevens Point
Tillema helped the top-ranked Pointers get road victories over UW-Stout and UW-Superior during the week.  On Jan. 8, he finished with 17 points, including the game-winning basket with 15 seconds left and UW-Stevens Point trailing by a point.  Tillema also finished with a game-high four assists and grabbed a team-high five rebounds in the win.  On Jan. 11, Tillema led all scorers with 26 points on just 15 shots (and 12-13 from the free-throw line).  He also had a game-high four assists and grabbed six boards in the contest.  For the week, Tillema averaged 21.5 points per game, while shooting 45 percent from the field and 88 percent from the foul line.  In addition, he averaged 5.5 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal per game.

Week of Dec. 16 - Jan. 5
Trevor Hass, Senior (New London, Wis.), Guard/Forward of UW-Stevens Point
Hass helped lead the Pointers to a 5-0 record over the past two weeks.  He was named the Tournament MVP in the D3Hoops.com Classic for his role in wins against Whitworth University (Wash.) and Whitman College (Wash.).  In the opening contest in Las Vegas, Nev., he shot 50 percent from the field (8-for-16) and finished with 21 points.  The following night against Whitman, he tied a school record with 40 points on 15-for-25 shooting and also grabbed four rebounds, had two steals and handed out four assists.  Hass had another strong performance, scoring 20 points on 8-for-11 from the field, as UW-Stevens Point topped North Central College (Ill.) on the road on Dec. 31.  Hass was counted on in each of the five contests to take on a tough defensive challenge in addition to his offensive performance.  Over the five games, Hass averaged 21.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per game and shot 56.5 percent from the field.

Week of Dec. 9 - 15
Boston Johnson, Sophomore (Oshkosh, Wis./North), Guard of UW-Platteville
Johnson averaged 30 points, five rebounds and three assists; and shot 67.9 percent from the field in two games during the week.  He was 7-for-13 (.538) from beyond the arc and 15-for-17 from the free throw line.  He averaged 38.0 minutes in the Pioneers two games with only four turnovers.  Johnson set a career-high 23 points and was 7-for-7 from the free throw line in the Pioneers’ 71-56 victory over UW-Eau Claire on Dec. 11. On Dec. 14, he netted a game-high and a new career-best 37 points in the Pioneers’ double overtime setback at Carthage College (Wis.), 112-104.

Week of Dec. 2 - 8

Alex Oman, Senior (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater), Forward of UW-Stout
Oman scored 18 of his game-high 20 points in the second half of a 74-69 win over No. 4-ranked and previously undefeated UW-Whitewater on Dec. 7.  After scoring two points in the first half, Oman was 6-of-7 from the floor in the second half, 2-of-3 from 3-point range and 4-of-7 from the line.  During a just over two minute span, Oman answered every Warhawk basket, keeping UW-Stout ahead by four points, by scoring seven points.  A 3-pointer at 15:35 gave UW-Stout a 42-38 lead. At 14:52 Oman hit a jumper for a 44-40 lead and at 13:16 he hit another jumper for a 46-42 lead.  For the game, Oman was 7-of-12 from the field, 2-of-5 from 3-point range and 4-7 from the line and had three rebounds and two assists.  In a 79-68 win over UW-Superior on Dec. 4, Oman came off the bench to score 14 points, going 4-of-10 from the field, but 6-of-8 from the line.  He added four rebounds, two assists and a steal.  On the week, Oman scored 34 points, was 11-22 from the field, 2-9 from 3-point range, 10-15 from the line and had seven rebounds, four assists and one steal.

Week of Nov. 25 - Dec. 1
Jimmy Whitehead, Senior (La Crosse, Wis./Aquinas), Guard of UW-Stout
In leading UW-Stout to a 5-1 overall record and a five-game winning streak, Whitehead has done the bulk of his scoring down the stretch. In an 88-83 overtime win at Luther College (Iowa) on Nov. 25, Whitehead pulled UW-Stout to within one point, 69-68, with 32 seconds remaining, then hit a 3-pointer with four seconds left to send the game into overtime. Whitehead tallied a game-high 24 points in the win. In the opening game of the UW-Stout Thanksgiving Tournament on Nov. 30, Whitehead scored 13 of his team-high 15 points after intermission, helping to down Ashford University (Iowa) 56-41.  In a 64-56 win over Wartburg College (Iowa) in the final game of the Thanksgiving Tournament on Dec. 1, Whitehead was 9-for-9 from the floor in the second half on his way to a game-high 26 points, scoring 20 second half points.  Whitehead also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.  On the week, Whitehead averaged 21.7 points, shooting 61.9 percent (26-42) from the floor, 40.0 percent (4-10) from 3-point range and 81.8 percent from the line (9-11). He has averaged 5.3 rebounds, and 1.0 assist and 1.0 steal.

Week of Nov. 18 - 24
Tyler Tillema, Senior (Randolph, Wis.), Guard of UW-Stevens Point
Tillema led the Pointers to a 2-0 record during the week.  In a road win at Edgewood College (Wis.) on Nov. 18, he shot 67 percent from the field (6-for-9) and a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line.  He also handed out six assists, grabbed three rebounds and had one steal.  Against Hope College (Mich.) on Nov. 23, Tillema finished with 29 points on 10-for-14 shooting from the field (71 percent) and 9-for-12 from the free throw line.  He also had five assists and five rebounds.  All three of these statistical categories were game highs.  On the week, Tillema averaged 21.5 points on 70 percent shooting (16-for-23), four rebounds, 5.5 assists and one steal per contest.  Tillema’s 11 assists were against only two combined turnovers in the two games.

Trevor Hass, Senior (New London, Wis.), Guard/Forward of UW-Stevens Point
Hass was a perfect 7-of-7 from beyond the arc and an efficient 13-of-17 (76%) from the field in UW-Stevens Point’s home win against Lawrence University (Wis.) on Nov. 16.  He finished with a career-high 33 points in addition to grabbing a game-high seven rebounds for the Pointers.  Hass also handed out two assists and had a steal in the contest.
