Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Honors Distributed
MADISON, Wis.--The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced its award winners for the 2016 men’s outdoor track & field season based on voting by the league coaches.
University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Ernest Winters was chosen the Track Performer of the Meet, while UW-Eau Claire’s Alex Mess was named the Field Performer of the Meet and UW-La Crosse’s Josh Buchholtz earned the Coach of the Year honor.
Winters won the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, establishing conference season-best times of 10.48 and 21.30, respectively. UW-La Crosse has had an individual claim the Track Performer of the Meet award eight times in program history.
Mess is second Blugold to earn the Field Performer of the Meet trophy. He won the shot put with a heave of 57-7 and took second in the discus with a toss of 160-4. Mess added a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw with a fling of 177-1.
Buchholtz received the coaching honor for the eighth consecutive year after leading the Eagles to their 26th straight WIAC crown. UW-La Crosse won three individual titles and one relay crown during the two-day championship.
