MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Kevin Kron and UW-Oshkosh’s Will Chaney were chosen the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, to top the 23 individuals selected to the 2011 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Soccer Team by the league coaches. In addition, Warhawks head coach Greg Henschel was selected the Coach of the Year.
This marked the first season that the conference provided an offensive and defensive award, and named a first and second team. Kron finished second in the WIAC with 23 points and 10 goals during the 2011 campaign. He also added three assists. Kron recorded at least one point in 10 of 19 matches and had a season-high four points against UW-Oshkosh on Sept. 28.
Chaney earned first team recognition for the second straight year after leading a Titan defense that posted a league-high 10 shutouts in 2011. He also contributed one assist.
Repeat selections on the first team from a year ago included: UW-Oshkosh’s Tim Stadler; UW-Platteville’s Brandon Chmiel and Anthony Heller and UW-Superior’s Thomas Shuldheisz and Dan Warnke. Shuldheisz and Warnke were also first team selections in 2009, along with teammate Eric Nilsen.
Henschel secured the coaching prize for the second time in three years after leading the Warhawks to an undefeated mark against WIAC adversaries (8-0) and their third straight conference title. UW-Whitewater also earned a spot in the NCAA Division III Championship. He completed his 13th season in charge of the program and owns a 164-68-20 record.
An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school.
